My working style
I was awarded a Diploma in Counselling in 2010. I use an integrative approach, which means that my interventions will be tailored to you. I draw upon psychodynamic, person-centred and cognitive behavioural therapy schools of thought. I can in-cooperate gestalt, solution focused, motivational interviewing and neuro-linguistic programming techniques into my practice, based on your needs. In addition, I hold a Diploma in Trauma Therapy. My work with childhood and adult trauma is client led. This means that I will be guided by your needs and preference; in regards to the pace of processing trauma and selecting an approach that resonates with you the most.
I would describe my approach as gentle yet challenging. I endeavour to reach out to clients from the place of authenticity, warmth and compassion. Above all from the place of being a human and knowing what it is like…
I have worked within an NHS mental health setting for more than four years. Whilst there, I have gained an experience of working with young adults with psychosis (acute stage). Having witnessed clients when they are most vulnerable, has reinforced my belief that it was the therapeutic relationship, not particular modality, that brought about positive changes in clients’ mental state. I found that being fully there, connecting and helping clients make sense from their experiences were “interventions” that they valued the most. Research confirms that it is the quality of therapist and client relationship that brings about desirable outcomes.
Formerly, I have worked with elderly people within various healthcare settings. Over five years of experience has led me to develop an in depth understanding of issues older people might face. I have also worked extensively with carers and families who looked after their loved ones.
I have experience of counselling at London based, charity settings such as Victim Support, Centre 70 and IDAS where I provided general, addiction and trauma counselling to a diverse client group.
I have worked in private practice at Lavender Hill Counsellors and Green Room.
Counselling can be challenging and painful. However, considering that you are reading this, it is likely that you have been challenged by life and that you are experiencing some level of emotional pain.
While therapy holds no guarantees I will meet you where you are at, and accompany you on your journey to where you want to be.
During our first appointment you will have an opportunity to ask questions and get a sense of what it might be like working with me. If you decide to continue we will make another appointment, usually for the following week.
If counselling is new to you it might feel unfamiliar to start with, and it might take a few sessions to settle.
I provide face to face counselling to adults and older people. I have experience of working short, medium and long term.
Sessions are normally once per week and last 50 minutes.
I see clients from the Rose Room at High Street Therapy Centre. There is a waiting area downstairs. Please note that the room is located on the second floor. If you are unable to negotiate the stairs, an alternative location might be arranged.
£45 for 50 minutes session
